A brief history of Camiguin
Did you know that Camiguin Island is also known as the “Island Born of Fire”? The island has several volcanic mountains that shaped its history and landscape.
These include Mt. Hibok-Hibok, Mt. Vulcan, Mt. Guinsiliban, Mt. Mambajao, Mt. Timpoong, Mt. Tres Marias, and Mt. Uhay. Among them, Mt. Timpoong is the highest peak in Camiguin. It stands at approximately 1,600 meters above sea level.
Mt. Hibok-Hibok is Camiguin’s active volcano. Its most recent major eruption occurred on December 4, 1951. The eruption caused widespread destruction and claimed thousands of lives on the island.
These volcanoes are an important part of Camiguin’s natural beauty and history. They also helped give the island its famous nickname, “Island Born of Fire.”
Why Excited To Visit?
I have two reasons why I love visiting Camiguin Island. One reason is its close location to Cagayan de Oro. The other reason is more personal and meaningful to me.
My great-great-great-grandparents lived on the island before the volcano erupted. Knowing this makes every visit to Camiguin more special for me. It gives me a personal connection to the island and its history.
My second reason is the island’s beautiful tourist spots. Camiguin has many amazing places that are perfect for adventure and relaxation. From its beaches and waterfalls to its volcanoes and natural springs, there is always something to enjoy.
For me, Camiguin is more than just a beautiful tourist destination. It is also a place connected to my family’s history.
Barkada Trip
We wanted to spend our weekend wisely, so we decided to visit Camiguin Island with our friends. We stayed overnight and planned to visit some of our favorite tourist spots the next morning.
Our first stop was the Ardent Hot Spring. After that, we headed to my favorite island, Mantigue Island. Both places are perfect for relaxing and enjoying time with friends and loved ones.
Mantigue Island is a wonderful place to visit with friends, family, or someone special. It offers beautiful views of Camiguin’s mountains and surrounding waters. The island is small, so you can explore much of it within just a few minutes.
What I love most about Mantigue Island is its peaceful atmosphere. It is a great place to relax, enjoy the scenery, and spend quality time together.
The island was developed by the local government, and an entrance fee is collected for maintenance. This helps keep the Mantigue Island Nature Park clean and enjoyable for visitors.
You can also enjoy different activities on the island, including snorkeling and scuba diving. The clear waters make it a great place for underwater adventures.
Overall, our visit was a fun and memorable weekend getaway. Spending time with friends while enjoying Camiguin’s beautiful scenery made the trip even better.
