Bohol Tarsier The Smallest Primate In the World

One of our favorite Islands to visit in the Philippines is the province of Bohol, which is located in the Central Visayas Region. Tagbilaran is the capital and it is the tenth-largest province in the Philippines. The Island of Bohol is also famous for its beautiful beaches and resorts that are becoming famous tourist attractions.

A few months ago we visited Bohol province again but this time together with our title traveler buddies. This is their first time to visit Bohol so we make it sure that they will enjoy on this travel. I know that they could not remember this travel yet but I’m sure when the time comes and they will read this post I’m sure a big smile on their face. Our travel to Bohol on these days are full of worries because our eldest has a fever but thanks God he managed to fight and recover on our 2nd day in Bohol but we closely monitored him. To make our life easier and comfortable on this travel, we decided to hire a tour package since we are only 7 with 4 adults and 3 children. So fast forward, we visited the Bohol Tarsier sanctuary place that I know they will like it because they like animals.

About the Tarsiers

Bohol province also became popular in the home of the smallest living primate in the world, the Tarsiers which exist in several southeast Asian countries today. Tarsier also is known as “Mamag” which the locals called it. Did you know that the brain of the Tarsier is about the same size as their eyes? The connection between its eyes and brain serves a unique function to these animals that are important for their stability and balance. Tarsiers have incredible hearing abilities. They can hear a frequency of up to 91 kHz (kilohertz) and send sounds of 70 kHz. They are mostly active at night; it lives on a diet of insects.

Tarsiers can be found in the islands of Samar, Leyte, Bohol, and Mindanao in the Philippines. Some scientists consider tarsiers to be a taxonomic suborder among the primates. While, because they are closely related to lemurs, lorises, and bushbabies, others classify them with the prosimians to which these animals belong.

Bohol Tarsier Sanctuary Time and Fees

The entrance fee of Bohol tarsier sanctuary is P60 pesos and they are open from 9 am to 4 pm except for Holidays. The best season to visit the Corella tarsier Sanctuary is from December to May.

Travel Guide on How to get there

Corella Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary is hardly 14 kilometers from the provincial capital Tagbilaran City. Buses and jeeps are available from the capital city on a regular basis to reach this place. Moreover, resorts in Bohol Island provide transportation facilities to Corella. The sanctuary is located in a wide area of 134 hectares of forest area in Corella.
