Camp Aryahorst Private Rest House Review

Camp AryaHorst

Last June of 2021, Camp Aryhorst caught our attention which is a nice place to spend some time with your family. So fast forward, to December 2021, and still, we are not free from Covid-19 and still we need to follow the safety protocols that the government implemented. In December 2020 we spent our Christmas at Dahilayan Garden and this Christmas December 24-26, 2021 we spent our Christmas at Dahilayan Comfy Cabin which is our 2nd time at this place. We love to stay tot his Comfy Cabin @ Dahilayan because all you have to bring is your food to cook and yourself. They already provide all you want, from cooking utensils, beds, blankets, garbage bins everything you can see in your house is provided by this resort/rest house. The weather in the place is also cold as we expected at Dahilayan Comfy Cabin

December 31,2021-January 2, 2022, we decided to spend our New Year at Camp AryaHorst which is located at Sitio Civoleg, Brgy Lunotan, Gingoog City. Almost 2 hours travel time from Cagayan de Oro. It is the Claveria-Gingoog Boundary near Doalnara Claveria. You will follow Route 955 road a shortcut or diversion road going to Gingoog City. We know that Claveria is a cold place and many local and foreign tourists are attracted to the weather of Claveria. Since it is a private rest house, I am expecting a lot from this Camp AryaHorst Rest house aside from the weather which is unpredictable in this place. It is a 2-storey model house, on the ground floor you can find the bathrooms, restrooms, and kitchen. I think they will open a coffee shop soon on their ground floor. Camp Aryahorst is just along the highway of Route 955 road.

Camp Aryahorst is named after the owner’s pet Shihtzu dog named “Arya” and “Horst” which is German for “nest”. Accordingly, when the family goes to work, Arya usually gets their used clothes makes a ‘nest’ out of them, and sleeps on them until they arrive home. They added “camp” because they loved camping out.

Camp AryaHorst View and Weather

I have nothing to say about the view and weather of this beautiful place. When we arrived at Camp Aryahorst on December 31, 2021. Around 5 p.m. we were already welcomed by the cold and rainy weather of Claveria until January 1, 2022. We love the cold weather of Claveria. In fact at Camp Aryahorst place, you can view the 2 popular mountains in Northern Mindanao.

  • Mount Lumot where the Cebu Pacific Flight 387

Was crashed and killed 99 passengers including 5 flight crews on February 2, 1998. Famous Mount Lumot is also called “Mountain of Souls” by the local Higoanon. This mountain is now 1 of the tourist attractions when you visit Claveria-Gingoog road also known as the Route 955 road. A 20-foot memorial shrine, dedicated to those who perished in the tragic event and erected about 24 years ago, is located within the complex.

This is your morning view, a cold and foggy morning in this place.

  • Mount Balatukan

Is a massive potentially active compound stratovolcano in Northern Mindanao, Philippines. It is the highest point in the province of Misamis Oriental. The volcano has no historical eruptions but displays fumarolic activity. The mountain is a protected area in the country classified as a Natural Park, the Mount Balatukan Range Natural Park.

What to Expect at Camp AryaHorst

  • A private place for your family or friends.
  • They have rooms and beds where you can rest.
  • A beautiful background that you can post on your social media accounts.
  • The place also provides a stove and cooking pot where you can cook your food (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner).
  • A parking space for your vehicle.
  • Shower and toilet (of course) :-).
  • They have a stove and a few utensils to use for cooking.

What to Bring or to Prepare When You Have Plans to Stay at Camp AryaHorst?

  • Jacket– A very thick jacket because they have very cold weather especially in the afternoon until dawn.
  • Bring Your Own Blanket– During our stay, Camp Aryahorst did not provide us a blanket, although they informed us ahead of that, that we needed to bring our own blanket for safety purposes because of the pandemic, the camp should provide its own blanket for the guest/s. What if the guest/s come from a long-distance journey and they want just to stay for a night.??
    • The reason is because of the pandemic why they informed us to bring our own blanket.
      • Question?? Why not provide your guest/s a clean blanket the one that is new laundry? It’s up to the guests if they will use it or not.
    • Utensils – Camp Aryahorst only has 1 burner gas stove and a small cooking pot to be used.
    • Trash Bin or Trash Cellophane– This is unexpected, no trash bin or trash cellophane at Camp Aryahorst. It is our big problem where we will through our garbage because we did not inform and it’s not appropriate to just through our garbage anywhere in the place, so we used the Karton (Karton Box) as our garbage bin the one that we bring.

      Our Garbage area

    • Drinking Water– you could drink the water from the faucet but they informed us during our last day. The source of their water from the faucet is from the spring. Drinking water should be provided because not all guest/s will drink at the faucet and trust the source of the water. We, adults, can drink the water from the faucet but those guest/s who have kids will surely not allow their kids to drink the water from the faucet just like us. 1 gallon of water is enough which is around 25-30 pesos only for 1 day when there are guests.
      • We were only informed that they would provide us with a water heater but only an electric water heater. It is different from what we imagine as the water dispenser for cold and hot water.
      • Sorry to say but the water heater that was provided to us is not clean.

        The water heater

    • Bring your own towel– They don’t have towels for their guest/s.
    • No Proper Dining Table – No dining table for gatherings at Camp Aryahorst. The place only has a small round table that is good for 3-4 people.

Camp Aryahorst needs to improve more in the place in order to give a really good service to their guests. Please provide a trash bin, blanket, towel, cooking eating utensils, water, and water dispenser. For now, I will rate Camp Aryahorst 4.5 out of 10. But wait there’s more, in front of Camp there is a river which you can swim. We did not try it because of the unstoppable rain during our stay. There is also a mere walking distance from the rest house is a running freshwater with a waterfall. This is my own assessment of Camp Aryahorst, if you disagree with what I wrote just leave your comments below. 🙂
