Mile Long Barracks was built in 1941 and according to our tour guide also that this Mile Long Barracks covered up to 8000 American soldiers during that time and it was so named in reference to its length. This is a three-story concrete building that was constructed to be hurricane-proof. It was used for the billeting of American officers and enlisted personnel detailed at the garrison during World War II. The entire length of the building measures about 1,520 feet that it became popularly known as the world’s longest military barracks. Although it is just less than a third of a mile long, it was, however, commonly referred to as the Mile-Long Barracks. The headquarters of Gen. Douglas MacArthur was also located in this building.

Corregidor Island, rocky island, strategically located at the entrance of Manila Bay, just south of Bataan province, Luzon, Philippines. It is a national shrine commemorating the battle fought there by U.S. and Filipino forces against overwhelming numbers of Japanese during World War II.

The small (2-sq-mi [5-sq-km]) island, part of the province of Cavite, has long been considered a natural fortress. The Spanish fortified it in the 18th century when it was used as a registration (Corregidor) site for ships entering the bay. After the Spanish–American War, the island became a U.S. military station and an elaborate system of tunnels.
