Lanzones Festival Camiguin Island, it’s been a while since my last visit to the Island Born of fire Camiguin Island. Most of the time when we visit at Camiguin is during the Holy week and some occasion. Before the end of October the group was decided to visit Camiguin just for weekend getaway and have this tag line (for a change) and to stay for overnight. We have only 2 reasons why we say yes to come to Camiguin, because on the weekend is the opening of the Lanzones festival which this Island popular with the sweetest Lanzones in the Island of Mindanao, lanzones is a small grape-sized tropical fruit grown all over the island. The week-long Lanzones Festival is one of the more colorful events in the Philippines. The second reason is to experience how harvest Lanzones from the trees and to eat unlimited Lanzones which all of us was satisfied during this experience. They are celebrating festival every October.

Choosing which to pick

To make the story short and to start our adventure, we arrived at Camiguin Island on Saturday 6 pm then went to our host for that evening to have some dinner and to stay overnight. During dinner we also start planning on what to do on the next day during the opening of the Lanzones Festival because we have only 1 day to enjoy Camiguin. Instead of going to the opening of the Lanzones Festival we decided to went to Mantigue Island early in the morning to enjoy the white sand and calm water with the beautiful view of big mountains in front of the Mantigue Island during morning and have our lunch at Fishpen which is located near Benoni port.

Lanzones Fruit

Lanzones Harvest

So we will spend our half day for the second reason, to experience how to harvest lanzones and to eat unlimited. The grandparents of our host incdo were owned lands where lots of Lanzones trees were planted and she promised us for the experience of eat all you can Lanzones.

Lanzones Tree

Lanzones Tree

So here we go, we are just like little kids very happy when we saw these trees and yes I admit that we really enjoyed during these experience and because of the excitement I felt I forgot to ate lots of Lanzones because I was enjoyed taking pictures on the trees. Lolz.. J I think I need to come back here next year during the lanzones festival to eat lots of Lanzones and when it will be happen I will leave my camera to avoid destruction for my unlimited Lanzones.. :-p

Lanzones Tree

So tell me, do you think you can eat more Lanzones if these are in front of you…?

Brief history of Camiguin.

Did you know that Camiguin Island also called “The Island Born off Fire” because of the 7 volcanoes namely Mt. Hibok-Hibok, Mt. Vulcan, Mt. Guinsiliban, Mt. Mambajao, Mt. Timpoong, Mt. Tres Marias and Mt. Uhay. Mt. Timpoong is the highest volcano in Camiguin with about 1600 meters and Mt. Hibok-Hibok is the active volcano. The last eruption dates was December 4, 1951 which killed 3000 people on the island.

I have two reasons why I love to visit Camiguin Island aside that it is near to Cagayan de Oro it is because my grand grand grand parents was live in this Island before the Volcano was erupted and the second reason why I love to visit this place because of the beautiful tourist spots that they have.

Mantigue Island

We need to spend our weekend wisely, together with our friends we spend our weekend at Camiguin Island. We do over night and visit some favorite tourist spots that we love in the next morning and these are the ardent hot spring and my favorite Island, the Mantigue Island. Mantigue Island is a nice place to visit and hang out with your friends’ family and love ones. It has nice view to the big mountains of camiguin and you can explore the entire Island in just few minutes only.

Mantigue Island group pic with mountain background

The Island was developed by the local government and they have already entrance fee for the maintenance of this Mantigue Island nature park. You can do snorkeling and scuba dive also. It was a nice and fun adventure during our weekend getaway.

I received lots of inquiries about my post on Paras Sea Cat Schedule and Rates of Travel regarding the travel schedule and the rate that they have. I also received emails from other country which they would to reserved tickets for their travel going to Camiguin or Bohol. Travelers also ask if they have online booking system to book early to their travel. The most email and comment I received is that they think I’m an agent of this Paras Sea Cat where in they ask me if they can reserved tickets, if there is a package promo, how much is the student pay and everything.:-)

I would like to inform you guys that Paras Sea Cat was release an status on there facebook Page last June 2011 that:

PARAS SEA CAT IS HAVING ANNUAL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE… NO TRIP STARTING JUNE 16 2011 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.. THANK YOU..

I know that summer is almost there and also the holy week so people are now start looking where they can spend their vacation with these days. Since Paras Sea Cat is no longer operating, but don’t worry we have an alternative fast craft going to Camiguin and Bohol and that is the Ocean Jet. The fare of this ocean jet is PHP 550.00 per leg. Promos and discounts are available.

Almost 1 month since my last post in this blog. We know that Camiguin is one of the to spots in Mindanao because of its beautiful tourist destination that different with other tourist places in the country. Camiguin the Island of Imagination is the place to go during holy week or what we called the Panaad.

View of Clam Sanctuary

After we done our activity in PANAAD 2011, off course visiting the tourist spots of Camiguin is the second activity that we would like to do. But this time we choose only few tourist spots to visit so that we can enjoy the place and feel the heat of the sun and also enjoy our summer. The first spot is Soda Swimming Pool, we spent our lunch in this place and also we enjoyed swimming. The second destination is the Katibawasan Falls; compare to Soda Swimming Pool there are lots of people in this place who really enjoyed swimming.

The third 3rd tourist stop that we enjoy is the Mantigue Island, this place has a similarity in White Island, but the only deference is that Mantigue Island has cottages and mini store where in you can buy and order food to eat. Aside on that you can rent gear or equipment for snorkelling for only 50-150 pesos you where now enjoy snorkelling under the heat of the sun. You can also tour and explore the island for only 1-1:30 hour.

The 5 Biggest Clams When They Grow Old

The final destination of the tourist spots that we visit is the new tourist spot in town and they called it CLAMs sanctuary. Through the help of Department of Environment and Natural Resources or (DENR) this sanctuary has more than 400 clams with deferent classification and 400 of them are in the beach, you can see all of them if you would like to do a snorkelling or dive in their area of responsibility. So if you again in Camiguin don’t forget to visits the Clam Sanctuary. View pictures below.

Already 1 year past since we went to Camiguin Island for the Panaad 2010 and now we will go back to Camiguin for the Panaad 2011. I’m so excited to go back in this Island because I’m pretty sure that I experience new things in this Island, aside on that it’s a 4 days of long day vacation. Another visits of the popular tourists spots of this Island which is the White Island, Sunken Cemetery, Ardent (hot Spring), Santo Nino (cold Spring), Soda, Old Church, Katibawasan falls and the Walkway.

While I’m making this post I’m packing my things to bring and wondering if I have enough money to travel tomorrow..(hahahha). Actually we decided late to go to Camiguin for the Panaad 2011. By the way while I’m worried about my money during my travel it came out on my mind about the Payday Loan which most of the people is using this one, yes I know it certainly doesn’t sound like the classiest things. Go back to my travel tomorrow, we will leave Cagayan de Oro around 4am and hopefully we will arrive before 12 noon at Camiguin Island which is impossible because tomorrow is busy day for the travellers and to those people who would like to relax and spend these days to their family and love ones.

But I have one thing in my mind during this travel tomorrow and that is to enjoy the long day vacation which is the very most important as a traveller to enjoy the place you go. I think I’m done with my post and almost done packing my things and I’m ready to go.. by the way, let’s stop the judgement on people who chose to borrow from a payday loan company.

Your CDO GUIDE went to Camiguin last weekend to attend a wedding to our friend; this friend is the officemate of Newlydiscover. Around 2 pm we leave Cagayan de Oro and around 4pm we arrived at Balingoan where we will ride a barge going to Camiguin which is a 1 and haft hour travel time. When we arrived Camiguin we go directly to the Fishpen resort where the group will stay and some of our friends are waiting for us on that resort. We are 15 in the group which some of us are so excited because it’s their first time to step Camiguin Island. In the next morning after the wedding the plan is already made on where we go and what tourist spot should the will be visited. Since the group has big number of people, we decided to rent a van and use it to our travel and trips for that particular day.

Here we go; our first destination in our first day is the Katibawasan falls which is one of the popular tourist spot at Camiguin. Tourist visits this place because of the big water fall and the forest looks to virgin, but the weather condition is not good as we expected, it was raining when we arrived at Katibawasan falls. But its okay, what we did in the area is only getting pictures and makes our crazy post together with the falls.

Since we could not swim to Katibawasan falls we decided to go to White Island although the weather condition is not good. The island is so quit because we are the only group in the Island; the water was so nice quit. But when we are in the island the weather condition was change.:-)

After enjoying at White Island, our next destination is the Ardent (hot spring). We stay and enjoy the place for almost 3 hours. I feel relax in this spring because of the water is so warm, there are lots of groups in this spring who enjoy also including foreigners and some tourist.

The next day before leaving Camiguin we decided to go another Island and that is the Mantigue Island. Going to Mantigue Island you need to rent a boat for only P550 to across the beach. The Island has a white sand, nice view to look at, clean water and in front of this Island are the big mountain of Camiguin. There are lots of things you can do in this Island, you can do snorkeling by renting their gear, visit and watch the sanctuary area and enter the turtle forest. By the way the van we rent in our tour is only P2, 500 in whole day, from 6am in the morning to 9 pm. View our some pictures..:-)

Kagay-anons got busy when the month of August is coming, because it is the time where Kagay-anons celebrate the fiesta. Preparing events in fiesta is not easy as we think and to broadcast it, so as part of the community of Cagayan de Oro, we the CDO BLOGGERS try to help promote the city and series of schedules in our city through blogging. Aside of promoting the city we blog also on what happened in the event so that our kababayan abroad will know what is happening in their city of Golden Friendship. As we blog the event, our kababayan abroad so happy on what they read in the blogs about Cagayan de Oro and they consider us as CDO GUIDE because we let them know although they are in abroad.

But month of August is already passed and what we will do..? There is no already celebration happened in the next 4 months that kagay-anons can be proud off. This time bloggers from all over Mindanao will have a gathering and even bloggers from Luzon and Bisayas will be attending on this big event. You wonder why it is already 3 and not 1 and 2..? it is because the Mindanao Bloggers Summit 1 was held at Davao last 2007 and the Mindanao Bloggers Summit 2 was held at General Santos city (Gen San) last 2008, the bloggers of this 2 blooming city is so active and organize.
Our Camiguin tour will be completed if we would could not visit and enjoy the Elation Island they have, the White Island. Around 5:30 in the morning we already there, you wonder why we so early..? It is because we would like to witness the sunrise and to take some beautiful pictures in the Island. The Island is so great and they maintain the cleanliness of the Island. One thing that I observe at White Island when we arrived they ask us an entrance fee which is 30 pesos, I wonder why they ask us an entrance fee. I ask one of the in charges, he told me that the entrance fee that they get is for the maintenance of the Island. They start collecting an entrance fee for the White Island early this year according to him.

So much on that we go back to our trip, we bring our own food because it so expensive if we buy food at White Island. We enjoy the place, the nature and off course our food that we bring. I noticed also that Havaianas is there to promote their product, the sleepers. You can get pictures from them together with the big havaianas sleepers. Here is our pictures at White Island and the Havaianas..

For our second day at Camiguin our destinations are walkway which is we walk from Mambajao going to walk around 5:00 o’clock in the morning. Our walk is almost 2 hours including our rest, around 6:30 we reach the walkway and then we start. Around 10 o’clock we are done in walkway. Our next destination is the Sto. Nino Cold Spring which is a few kilometers away from walkway. We took our lunch at Sto. Nino cold spring but sad to say we did not enjoy the place because it so crowded, so the group decided to transfer at Soda Spring which is near to Sto. Nino and I’m happy that we enjoy the place and the water. After enjoying the place we visit the Old Church and off course the Sunken Cemetery. Take a look our some pictures.
